Tyler Graduation

Tyler grew up in Maple Ridge B.C. where he attended Yennadon Elementary and Maple Ridge Secondary schools. He began his post-secondary education at Mercer University in Georgia on an academic-soccer scholarship in 2004 then transferred to Queen’s University in 2005. He graduated in the Engineering Chemistry program with First Class Honors in 2010. Throughout his time at Queen’s, Tyler was a starting goalkeeper on the men’s Golden Gaels Varsity Soccer team. During his goalkeeping career he received many awards for his leadership and athletic skills. He was most proud of the Booth-Ersil Award. Following graduation from Queen’s, Tyler returned to his west coast roots when accepted into a Masters Degree program in Biological and Chemical Engineering at the University of British Columbia. One year into his Masters he transferred into his PhD. program. Tyler was passionate about environmental causes and he dedicated his doctoral work to sustainable clean technology. He was awarded a posthumous Master of Applied Science degree from UBC at the May 2013 convocation ceremony.

Tyler’s loves were vast; his family and extended family, friends, music, skiing, surfing, cycling rock climbing, hiking, traveling, water sports, soccer and reading. Tyler was an extraordinary man, caring, compassionate, loyal, dedicated, intelligent and witty. He was an amazing son, loving partner, friend and co-worker. He left an impact on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. He is profoundly missed by his parents Lynn and Graham, Dawn and extended family, friends and coworkers. It is because of Tyler’s lifelong passion for the environment and its sustainability that THE TYLER LEWIS CLEAN ENERGY RESEARCH FOUNDATION has been established to honor his memory.
